📷 Home Cameras & Recording Devices Policy

Last Updated: 9 December 2025

At People Like Us, trust and comfort in each other’s homes is everything. We’re guests in one another’s spaces — not hotels — and everyone deserves to feel relaxed, respected, and safe during their stay.

With home security cameras becoming more common, we’ve created a clear and fair policy aligned with standards used by platforms like Airbnb and other home-stay communities.

✅ What’s Allowed

External security cameras are allowed, provided that:

  • All cameras are clearly declared in your listing.
  • Their locations are fully disclosed (for example: front door, driveway, exterior side yard).
  • They are never positioned to monitor any indoor spaces.
  • Upon guest request, exterior cameras should be turned off during the exchange, except for front-door cameras which may remain active for security and arrival purposes.

These rules follow common accommodation standards where visible exterior cameras are acceptable when guests are informed in advance.

❌ What’s Not Allowed

Internal cameras or audio recording devices are not permitted at any time during an exchange, including in:

  • Bedrooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Living rooms
  • Kitchens
  • Hallways or common areas
  • Any space inside the home

If your home contains internal cameras as part of a smart-home or automation setup, they must:

  • Be powered off for the duration of the exchange.
  • Be visibly disabled, covered, unplugged, or stored away.

Hidden or undisclosed cameras are strictly prohibited.

🤝 Why This Policy Exists

Home exchange is built on mutual trust. Guests should be able to relax and feel fully at home without concern about being watched or recorded.

Hosts also deserve to protect their property transparently and reasonably. This policy balances both needs by protecting guest privacy while allowing standard exterior security systems where clearly disclosed.

🔍 Transparency Is Essential

If your home has cameras or recording devices:

  • Every device and its location must be disclosed in your listing.
  • Guests must be able to review this information before accepting an exchange.
  • Any undisclosed or altered camera setup during an exchange is a violation of this policy.

⚠️ Breaches of Policy

Breaches may result in:

  • Warnings or mandatory listing changes.
  • Temporary suspension of exchange privileges.
  • Account removal for serious or repeated violations.
